A Sunday evening storm left Portales without lights for a couple of hours on Sunday night, but officials reported no injuries or serious damage.
A wind gust of 62 mph was reported at Cannon Air Force Base at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, said Meteorologist Chuck Jones with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Sustained winds about that time were clocked at 40 mph for about 15 minutes, he said.
A Portales police dispatcher said the power in the city was off for about two hours, but was restored around 9 p.m. She said she did not know what caused the outage and area power suppliers could not be reached for comment.
NWS reported Cannon had a brief rainshower, but most of the region had only a trace of moisture on Sunday.
Today’s forecast calls for another chance of rain, but high winds are not in the forecast, Jones said.
