The Lady Ram volleyball team swept its pool and won two of three matches in bracket play for a third-place finish in the Zia Classic at Roswell this weekend.
“I thought we did really well,” Portales coach Ruth Chavez said. “It was a great tournament for us.”
After sweeping Pool D opponents Santa Fe, Hobbs and Hot Springs, Portales (4-5) moved on to the championship bracket. The Lady Rams defeated Ruidoso in the first round, but were swept by Clovis in the semifinals.
“They’re pretty good, but we played with the well,” said Chavez.
In the third-place match, Portales defeated Lubbock Christian in four games.
Portales returns to Roswell Tuesday for a match against Goddard, then hosts Clovis on Thursday.
