DORA — It was a story of free throws for both Dora basketball teams on Saturday night.
Both Coyote teams were outshot from the charity stripe, and both Coyote teams lost close games. Saturday at Guy Luscombe Gymnasium.
Kirk Burns had 27 to lead three Longhorns in double figures, and Logan outscored Dora (1-6) 19-12 in the fourth for a 70-66 win.
“No excuses,” Dora boys coach Ty Thatcher said. “They shot 22-of-28 at the free-throw line, we shot 6-of-10. I just think we fouled their shooters a lot, and they had a lot of over-the-back (fouls).”
J.D. Estrada added 15, while Drew Perez scored 10 for Logan.
J.R. Gonzales scored 22 to lead the Coyotes, with Tyler Wilhoit adding 17 and Clayton Stokes 13.
Logan 45, Dora 43 (OT)
Nikki Rogers had 13 points, and the Lady Longhorns recovered from a 24-11 halftime deficit to steal a win against the host Lady Coyotes.
Dora coach Bill Stockton said free throws were the difference, as Logan hit 20-of-29 and the Lady Coyotes converted on only 8-of-22.
“We’ve got to quit fouling,” Stockton said. “When the refs are calling a tight game, we’ve got to adjust.”
Jena Bilberry led Dora with 12 points, while Jaci Sant added eight.
