Maggie Lou Lawson, 95
Maggie Lou Lawson, 95, of Portales, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on June 23, 1908, in Thurber, Texas, to Annie Jane and Joseph A. Booth.
She attended school in Minco, Texas. She married Gayle U. Lawson on Aug. 2, 1928, in Thurber, Texas. They lived in Idalou, Pep and Levelland, Texas before moving to the Highway/Lingo area in 1942. In 1952, they moved near Milnesand, where they ran the school bus routes for Dora Schools. In 1979, they moved to Dora. She moved to Portales in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Will, Ed, and Sam Booth; five sisters, Ida Coleman, Ollie Hilburn, Lilly Hilburn, Rosa Watkins, and Minnie Lee Booth, who died as a child; a son, Danny Ray Lawson, who died in 1978; and her husband, Gayle U. Lawson, who died in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Darwin Lawson (and wife, Ruth) of Hope; a daughter, Anna Beth Richards (Jimmie) of Portales; four grandchildren, Karen Downing (Rich) of Eunice, J. Mark Richards (Rosalie) of Portales, Lisa Sue Richards of Portales and Jo Malyn Richards of Las Cruces; six great-grandchildren, Melissa and Richard Downing of Eunice, Ashley, Justin and Chance Sherburne of Portales, and Michele Robertson (Staff Sgt. Jeffery) of Minot, N.D.; a sister, Clara Jane Hopper of Mineral Wells, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Brad Morgan will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Melissa and Richard Downing, Ashley, Justin and Chance Sherburne and John Albrecht.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.

Paula Sue Moore, 53
Paula Sue Moore, 53, of Wetumpka, Ala., executive editor of the Montgomery, Ala. Advertiser, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at her home.
She was born on June 20, 1950, in El Reno, Okla., to Paul and Mary Trapp of Clovis.
She was a 1968 graduate of Clovis High School and 1974 graduate of Eastern New Mexico University. She has been senior editor of Gannett Co., Inc.’s Montgomery newspaper since April 1997. She began her professional newspaper career in 1971 at the Clovis News Journal, where she was wire editor. She met John Moore while they were both employed at the Clovis News Journal. She married John R. Moore on Feb. 18, 1972, in Clovis. She was past-president of the Texas Associated Press Managing Editor’s Association.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Ann Damaschke of Clovis; a nephew and niece, Danny and Dannette Damaschke, both of Clovis; a brother, Paul Trapp of Graeagle, Calif.; two nieces, Susan Simonson of Allentown, Pa. and Julie Wentworth Armijo of Chicago; her sister- and brother-in-law, Janet and James Wentworth of Belfast, Maine; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Division of Gynecological Oncology, in care of Patti Reichert, University of Alabama-Birmingham, 619 19th St. South, Birmingham, Ala. 35233.
The Rev. Susan Beehler of El Paso will officiate the services.
Cremation services were arranged by Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home of Montgomery, Ala.
Services are at 11 a.m. (CST) Friday at Children’s Harbor Chapel on the shore of Lake Martin, Ala.
