“Love it! It is a great town and I am proud to call it home. When you see the people support each other when they are in need, you know why Portales is called home.”
What’s your idea of a perfect day?
“Being at home with my family and watching it rain and seeing the changes it makes.”
What is your fondest memory of Portales?
“The birth of my children are tops.”
Who’s invited to your dinner party and why?
“My family. Our family gets together at holidays and they are always fun. Outside the family I would like to visit with God and ask lots of questions. Everyone else is human just like us.”
Who are your favorite entertainers?
“The staff at James Elementary may be some of the best entertainers. They try to make everyday exciting and a new day for learning. That is hard to do. The school’s staff is definitely underpaid.”
What is your favorite TV show, past and present?
“Past — ‘Its A Wonderful Life’ (Everyone touches and makes a difference in so many lives.) Present — ‘CSI.’
What’s so great about your favorite sport?
“I love to watch basketball. A team playing together and thinking as they play is exciting.”
What do you envision your life being like in 10 years?
“Still working with kids, and hopefully be a little smarter.”
What is your greatest fear?
“That I will have a chance to help a child, and miss that opportunity.”
What is your greatest hope?
“That I will be able to help a child to develop into a responsible young adult.”
What is your favorite smell?
“Rain, fresh-plowed ground and my wife’s homemade bread. (When she makes it. Hint, hint).
What would you like printed on your gravestone?
“Blest on Earth, Gone home.”

“‘I Hear the Train a Coming.’”

“Did I mention my wife’s homemade bread?”
What do you like best about your job?
“Definitely the kids!”
What is the least favorite part about your job?
“Absolutely the paperwork that takes me away from the kids.”
Tell us about your parents:
“Rock solid! I may not have done everything perfect, but it wasn’t their fault. They encouraged me to go into education and have always supported me. They raised five kids and were pretty successful. Luckily, I ended up with supportive in-laws for support also.”
Tell us about your first date:
“Do not remember it, but my last date with my wife was special. Doesn’t happen enough, but I have time to work on that.”
Tell us about your pets:
“We have a cat named ‘Black Beauty.’ I think she likes Micah the best.”
If you could do one thing and money were no object, what would you do?
“Make certain that everyone received a good education. The youth will solve all of the problems we have created. I do not want to miss one child who might have the answer or work on the solution.”
Who is your hero and why?
“Teachers, they are highly overworked and grossly underpaid. Have you thanked one of your teachers lately?”
What would you change about education?
“I would like to see more parents involved in their child’s education. Many are involved now and you can see the difference in their children. It really makes a difference.”
