Zias struggle in pool play

IRVING, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University struggled in pool play on Friday and Saturday in the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association’s Division II Leadoff Classic, losing three close games.
The Zias (6-13) were scheduled to take part in consolation bracket play later Saturday and on Sunday.
ENMU lost to Cameron 5-4 and to Emporia State 3-0 on Friday and was edged by Incarnate Word 2-1 on Saturday.
Eastern led Cameron 4-1 before the Lady Aggies tied the game in the sixth inning. CU won it in the bottom of the seventh on a run-scoring single by Ryan Schneberger, driving in Kelsey Wheeler.
Emporia State’s Deb Potter, who pitched a complete-game 13-5 win over the Zias on Sunday in a tournament at Weatherford, Okla., scattered four hits this time in throwing a complete-game shutout. The Lady Hornets scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.
On Saturday, UIW made a two-run second stand up against the Zias, who got their only run in the fifth.
