Goddard beats Portales softball team

By Kevin Wilson

Marissa Franco pitched a one-hitter, helping visiting Goddard claim a 1-0 win over Portales Thursday at City Softball Park.
Franco outdueled Portales senior Kassandra Richards in what was orginally the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was postponed due to rain.
Richards allowed three hits and struck out two batters, but Goddard got all the offense they would need in the seventh inning, as a double by Marissa Escobar scored Amber Emterio.
Portales’ only hit came in the third inning — a single by sophomore Rebekah Gonzales.
The second game has been rescheduled for Monday at Goddard, along with a game for the junior varsity team. The Portales JV team went to Goddard and also got rained out.
The junior varsity game will be held at 4 p.m., with a varsity doubleheader to follow.
