May 9 Elida School News

The junior high basketball girls team won first place at an AAU Tournament in Lubbock a couple of weeks ago. Way to go girls. They beat several Lubbock teams and we are really proud of them.
Vocational Awards
The vocational awards were held April 23rd. Mrs. McAfee recognized the members of the BPA: Shay Daugherty, Lindsey Ward, Brandy Hudson, and Ron Haley.
Mrs. Anthony recognized the members of FCCLA:  Shay Daugherty, Quentin Griffin, and Justin and Jerret Norman.
Mr. Savage gave awards to FFA members. Proficiency awards were given in Horse to Adrienne Coe; Beef, Shalie Amthony; Swine, Shay Daugherty; Sheep, Halee Best and Keisha Chenault; Ag. Mechanics to Caleb Widener; Star Greenhand Alicia Smith; Star Chapter Farmer Shay Daugherty; and Honorary Members to John D. Anthony, Tom Dannelley, Connie Ford, Kent Best, and Jim Daugherty. Congratulations to all the members that participated in vocational activities this year! 

The Roosevelt County Telephone Cooperative gave scholarships to several students from Elida. We would like to thank them for their continued support of Elida students. Those receiving scholarship awards were: Shay Daugherty, Samantha Southard, and Dustin Lambirth.
Also, congratulations to Adrienne Coe for being chosen the Youth Tour winner from the Roosevelt County Telephone Cooperative. She will be traveling to Washington D.C. in June for this trip.
Community service
The Elida High School entrepreneurship class has made edible baskets for a class project, and delivered them to selected members of the community as a community service project. This class has been trying to give back to the community for all the hard work and support that the citizens of Elida have shown.

Tuesday play
The Elida High School drama class will present a two-act play, “Something Fishy This Way Comes,” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The mystery-comedy is a whirlwind of action and laughs as everyone tries to find out the truth and deal with a demanding ghost. The public is invited to attend.
Before the play, the cheerleaders will serve a BBQ brisket dinner for $5 a plate from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Upcoming events
Next week is the Junior Play on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., Sports Banquet Thursday night at 7 p.m., High School Awards Friday night at 7 p.m., and graduation Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Elementary News
Kiwanis Track Meet will be on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with Floyd and Dora.
There will be a 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade field trip Wednesday. Run for ribbons is Thursday at 9 a.m. Kindergarten graduation and elementary awards May 17th at 7 p.m.
