Shannon Osborne splits her time as the manager of the Harding Apartments and a program advisor for Eastern New Mexico University’s Office of Organizations and Activities. Her fantasy dinner party would include Eleanor Roosevelt and the Care Bears, and her superhero name would be Red Raven.
What do you think of Portales?
“I think Portales in an Oasis in the desert. Yes, it is small and smelly but it’s MY small and smelly home. Wal-Mart is open 24 hours a day — you can’t go wrong with that type of entertainment.”
What’s your idea of a perfect day?
“My perfect day would be sleeping in with no early morning phone calls, running a couple of miles, looking like a movie star and being the Master of Ceremonies for an ASAB event. And of course, winning the lottery.”
What is your fondest memory of Portales?
“One of my fondest memories was campaigning for Homecoming Queen. Campaigning turned out to be more fun than the spoils of victory (Osborne was crowned queen in 2001).”
Who’s invited to your dinner party and why?
“Eleanor Roosevelt she sticks out because she’s just an amazing person. Speaking from my childhood, all the Care Bears and My Little Ponies have to be invited.”
Who are your favorite entertainers?
“(Techno dance group) ATB, Robin Williams and Nicole Kidman.”
What is your favorite TV show, past and present?
“Beside the news, I really don’t watch much television. However, my favorite movies include: The Neverending Story, the Last Unicorn, & Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.”
What’s so great about your favorite sport?
“Swimming. You get to cool off and tan at the same time!”
What is your favorite smell?
“Homemade chocolate chip cookies.”
What’s your theme song?
“’Dangerous’ by Roxette.”
What is your favorite taste?
“Water with lot and lots of lemons. So refreshing!”
What do you like best about your job?
“I get to plan fun events (like Weekend Activities & Games) and meet all kinds of celebrities and drive them around town.”
Who would you want cast in the lead role in a movie about your life?
If you could be a superhero, what would your name and powers be?
“Red Raven. My superpowers would include flying and pecking out the seeds of injustice. Rraww….”
Tell us about your pets:
“I had four cats until recently. Sammy is my apartment cat, she is such a sweet baby. Shag and Emily are home with my parents in Lovington. My beloved Kiwi has gone on to better place in Kitty Heaven.”
Tell us something about you nobody would imagine:
“Both of my grandmothers were named Dorothy, and that’s how I got my middle name.”
Who is your hero and why?
“Jesus Christ. Without his love I would be lost.”
Ask your own question and answer it…
“If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? Ever since I was a little kid, I have always gazed at the stars. I pledged that someday, I would meet the man in the moon.”
