Lady Tigers finish seventh in Capitan tourney

CAPITAN — The Elida Lady Tigers went 1-2 and finished seventh over the weekend in an eight-team tournament.
Elida (8-3) beat the Artesia junior varsity 25-11, 25-10, 25-18 in the final round after losing to Animas 29-27, 16-25, 25-21, 25-12 and the Cloudcroft 25-22, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19 in the first two rounds of bracket play.
In pool play, Elida went 3-3 in games for third place. The Lady Tigers swept the Artesia JV 15-12, 15-6, lost to Magdalena 15-12, 15-9 and split with Capitan 8-15, 15-10.
Elida returns to action tonight at House.

Floyd tops Melrose — The Floyd Lady Broncos earned their first District 3-1A victory on Saturday, edging visiting Melrose 25-20, 16-25, 13-25, 25-18, 15-9.
Noel Carpenter had five kills for Floyd, while Carley Dement and Rachel Wilhite each recorded three blocks. Blair Jaramillo added three kills.
Melrose won both preliminaries — 25-16, 20-25, 15-13 in the junior high match and 25-17, 25-17 in junior varsity play.
On Friday, the Lady Broncos lost at Fort Sumner 25-9, 25-7, 25-7. They won the junior high match from the Vixens 25-11, 25-16, but lost in JV action 25-11, 25-9.

Dora seventh — The Dora Lady Coyotes went 1-2 in bracket play and finished seventh over the weekend in an eight-team tournament hosted by the Portales JV.
