Thanksgiving was great and it’s great to have our students back this week preparing reviews and test fro the semester grades. Time is marching on rapidly and hopefully they are as excited for the test to get here as they are for Christmas.
The Dora High School Leadership class was conducting a canned food drive the week before Thanksgiving. The food drive gave away a dinner for two at Mark’s Restaurant and Catering, and tickets to a movie. Students brought two cans of food to receive a ticket. On Nov. 23 the winning ticket was drawn . Sky Cathey in the fourth grade was the winner. The leadership class would like to thank all the students who participated in helping to raise 312 cans. The food was delivered to the Central Christian Church Food Bank. They would also like to thank Mark’s for donating the meals and also to Rick Tull for delivering the cans to the food bank.
The book fair is in progress in the school library through Friday.
Our varsity basketball girls and boys have been playing in the Clayton tournament all week. We have all been supporting them by following the “dress-up days” as indicated daily.
On Thursday, Wiley Coyote visited in the cafeteria. Wiley was a team mascot for years to all junior high and high school games. He usually accompanied our cheerleaders and stood with them as the cheered our players on. He accompanied the girls to both basketball and volleyball state tournaments in 1992, when they won both championships that year.
Wiley had seen some good games and had also encountered a little rough treatment, leading to his retirement in 1992. I sure enjoyed bringing him for a visit so I left him for Friday also. Who know, he just might decide to come out of retirement one of these days.
