Eastern New Mexico senior linebacker Jeff Howard has been named to the third team of the Associated Press’ Little All-America selections, announced on Thursday.
The Little All-America squad is comprised of players in NCAA Division II and Division III and the NAIA.
Howard, a Portales High graduate who led ENMU in tackles each of the last two seasons, was chosen to the first-team American Football Coaches Association squad last week.
He was in on 115 tackles for the Greyhounds in 2004, helping ENMU to a 6-5 record and a 4-2 mark in the Lone Star Conference South Division.
Howard is scheduled to play for the West squad in the Division II Cactus Bowl all-star game on Jan. 7 at Kingsville, Texas.
He was one of five Lone Star Conference players to earn Little All-America recognition. East Central senior Justin Brown was named to the first team as a defensive lineman, Abilene Christian sophomore Danieal Manning was a second-team choice as an all-purpose player, Texas A&M-Kingsville junior Deandre Fillmore made the second team at linebacker, and Southeastern Oklahoma senior Drew Beard earned third-team recognition at quarterback.
