ELIDA — Junior Kodi Armitage, expected to be sidelined a while by a knee injury, returned to action Monday night and scored 14 points to help Elida beat Floyd 47-34 in a District 3-1A girls first-round tournament game.
Elida (17-7), seeded second in the tournament, will host Melrose (12-14) in a 6 p.m. semifinal game on Wednesday. The Lady Buffaloes won at home over Dora 56-38 on Monday.
Elida blanked the Lady Broncos (8-18) through most of the first half, building a lead behind three of Armitage’s four 3-pointers. Floyd closed to nine points early in the final period before the Lady Tigers put the game away.
Armitage was injured in a game against Fort Sumner last week. Coach Dan Howard said her knee was inflamed and she was expected to be out a week or two, but she was cleared to play when the swelling went down.
Senior Adrienne Coe added 11 points for Elida, while senior Noel Carpenter paced Floyd with nine points.
At Melrose, senior post Audrey Hemminger scored 17 points and the Lady Buffs pulled away in the second half.
Junior Schuyler Cochran finished with 15 points for Melrose.
Leading scorers for the Lady Coyotes (10-15) were seniors D’Shawn Pettigrew with 13 points and Kassandra Clark with 11.
Wednesday’s winner is guaranteed a berth in regional competition next week and will play for the district tournament championship at unbeaten and top-seeded Fort Sumner in a 7 p.m. tipoff on Friday.
