Doris Newman
Services:
2 p.m. Friday at Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales.

Mrs. Doris Newman, 69, of Portales, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1935, in McAlister, to Maude and Raymond H. Jackson.

She lived in the Clovis-Melrose-House-Ranchvale area as a girl. She graduated from high school in Ranchvale in 1953. She married Odis Newman on Nov. 7, 1953. They made their home in Portales for a short time before moving to Farmington. In 1957, they moved back to Portales. Family members said she was an immaculate housekeeper, an excellent cook and enjoyed dancing with her husband. She was active at the Portales Senior Citizens where she enjoyed fellowship and playing games with friends. She and her husband spent a lot of their time at Conchas Lake where they fished through much of the year.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Arlene Shumate and Bertie Cox; and a son, Lloyd Newman.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Dixon (and husband, Stanley) of Arch; two grandchildren, Dana Dixon of Lubbock and Dustin Dixon of Clovis; two great-grandchildren, Pecos and Pryce Dixon, both of Portales; and her twin sister, Dolores Wallace of Coleman, Okla.

The Rev. Tony Reynolds and Scott Reeves will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Dallas Jones, Cody White, Tanner White, Darwin Billingsley, Stan Harrison and David Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers are all of her friends from Portales Senior Citizens and the Breakfast group from McDonalds.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Odis Newman
Services:

Mr. Odis Newman, 70, of Portales, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.

He was born on April 15, 1934, in Lyndsey, Okla., to Lilly and Ovid Newman.

He moved to New Mexico as a boy and attended school in Grady. He married Doris Jackson on Nov. 7, 1953. Not long after they were married, the telephone company transferred him from Portales to Farmington. In 1957, they returned to Portales to join his father in establishing Valley Electric. He retired in 1996. Family members said he enjoyed playing dominos and marbles the Senior Citizens Center, eating breakfast with his friends at McDonalds, and fishing at Conchas Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Newman; a sister, Foy Vandiver; and a son, Lloyd Newman.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Dixon (and husband, Stanley) of Arch; two grandchildren, Dana Dixon of Lubbock and Dustin Dixon of Clovis; two great-grandchildren, Pecos and Pryce Dixon, both of Portales; a brother, Gene Newman of Clovis; three sisters, Ermalee Shoemake of Mt. Vernon, Texas, Mary Ellen Kirby of Georgia and Donna Switzer of Portales.
