Dora splits with Portales JV — Brent Hays and Phillip Danbom combined on a two-hitter to lift the Dora Coyotes to a 4-0 victory over the Portales High junior varsity in the first game of a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday at Ram Field.
PHS came back to take the second game 4-1 as Jose Lucero had three hits and Lawrence Gamble two, and each drove in a run. That contest was called after five innings due to the chilly, windy conditions.
In the first game, Ben Massey led the attack for Dora (2-5) by going 2-for-3. Massey and Tyler Wilhoit both had run-scoring singles for the Coyotes, who begin district play at home on Thursday with a 3 p.m. contest against Elida.
Hays went the first three innings, allowing a bunt single, before Danbom came on for the final four frames.
