Acting on an informant tip, law enforcement officials disovered a little less than a pound of marijuana Wednesday afternoon while serving a search warrant.
The marijuana was found in 19 individually wrapped bags in a residence on the 300 block of South Avenue I, Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said. The total street value of the drugs, Berry said, is about $500.
Officers from the Portales Police Department and the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department worked on the search. The residence was empty at the time of the search.
As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made in in connection with the marijuana. Berry said a pair of arrest warrants will be served.
Police intended to do a second search on Wednesday, but Berry said that nobody was at the targeted residence and the department didn’t have a search warrant.
Since March 18, about 15 people have been arrested in connection to drug searches. Law enforcement officials have said throughout that none of the recent drug arrests are connected to each other.
