Vietnam veteran event today
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9515, has announced that a Vietnam Veterans Recognition event will be held at 2 p.m. today at Becky Sharp Auditorium on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University.
This is one of hundreds nationwide, and overseas, being conducted by VFW members and Ladies Auxiliary members as part of VFW’s Vietnam Veterans Recognition Week. This event runs May 1-7.
More than 3,403,000 American military personnel served in Vietnam and Southeast Asia during the war.
Family members are encouraged to attend.
AARP to hold forum Tuesday
The American Association of Retired Persons plans to conduct a community forum in Portales Tuesday on Social Security to discuss proposed changes to the system and its impact on New Mexicans.
The public forum is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Memorial Building.
The event is being sponsored by the Roosevelt County AARP Chapter No. 4301 and the Portales Retired Senior Volunteers Program.

Stubbs selected as representative
SANTA FE — Judy Stubbs has been selected as the new regional representative for Region Six, which covers the southeastern part of the state, announced New Mexico Economic Development Department Secretary, Rick Homans.
Stubbs will serve the counties of Chaves, Eddy, Lea, Curry, Roosevelt and De Baca.
“Judy Stubbs is a great addition to the department,” Homans said. “I am very happy to be welcoming a seasoned professional like Judy, who has made creating jobs and economic growth here in New Mexico a priority.”
