Country music artist Willie Nelson will be rolling into town today for a concert at 7:30 p.m. at Eastern New Mexico University.
The concert will be at the university’s Campus Union Ballroom.
Bruce Williams, a promoter for Nelson, said the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Billy Joe Shaver, country music singer/songwriter, will start the show at 7:30 p.m. and Nelson will follow, according to Williams.
Williams said, 1,250 of the 1,970 tickets were sold as of May 5. In less than a week, 250 more tickets have been sold to push the total to 1,500, according to Williams.
“Things are looking great (in preparation of concert),” Williams said. “Things have picked up lately in Portales and Clovis. Willie’s excited about being in Portales.”
Williams added that in response to calls about seating availability, concert organizers will have 600 seats available at the front.
There are still approximately 470 tickets left. Williams said tickets can be purchased at the ENMU Bookstore and Joe’s Boot Shop in Clovis. Tickets are $30 for general admission if purchased in advance. Ticket prices at the gate have been reduced to $30 as well, Williams said Tuesday night.
Will Kayatin, Director of Office of Student Activities and Organizations, said ENMU students and organizers have been working hard for the event. He said many of the people helping put the concert together are volunteers. In addition, ENMU students will help with the set-up for the concert.
Williams said they will begin set-up of the show at 10:30 a.m. and a sound check is scheduled for 3 p.m.
