Danny Ruther, 21
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
Danny Ruther, 21, of Portales, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1984, in Hollister, Calif.
He grew up in Floyd where he attended school. He graduated from Centennial High School in Utica, Neb., in 2002. He traveled for a short time before moving back to Floyd two years ago. He had worked for Dale Varnell Construction for a short time and Kenneth Herbert Lumber in Portales.
Family members said he enjoyed playing the guitar, skiing, boating and construction.
Survivors include a son, Lane Mathew Wurst-Ruther of Lincoln, Neb.; his father, Dan Ruther (and wife, Christine) of Roswell; his mother, Yantie Jones (Deacon) of Floyd; five brothers, Justin Ruther (Melissa) of Valiant, Okla., Adam Ruther of Fort Campbell, Ky., Brody Jones of The Colony, Texas, Aaron Ruther of Roswell and Trevor Dudley of Valiant, Okla.; and four sisters, Rebecca Thompson of Clovis, Amber England of Eagle Creek, Okla., and Sarah Hammock and Jessica Fulgham, both of Valiant, Okla.
The Rev. Billy Jones and James Love will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Adam and Aaron Ruther, Casey Herron, Robert Hardin, Mark Jones, and Tim Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers are his brother, Justin Ruther, and all other brothers and sisters.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Verna McDonald, 78

Verna Bell McDonald, 78, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Quanah, Texas.
She had worked the past 15 years with small children and enjoyed being a grandmother. She was a resident of Portales for 52 years.
She is preceded in death by three grandchildren, two sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Bleeks (and husband, Robert) of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Willie Decker (Roger) of Longview, Wash., and Joy Bergsieker (Ralph) of Portales; two sons, Matthew McDonald (Catherine) of Albuquerque and Mark McDonald (Rebecca) of Portales; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Johnson of Portales.
Arrangements were by Dimond and Sons of Bullhead City, Ariz.
Kenneth Mathis, 64
Services: 9 a.m. Monday at Portales Cemetery.
Kenneth Gene Mathis, 64, of Graham, Texas, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, in Graham, Texas.
He was born June 23, 1940, in El Centro, Calif., to Wesley Thaddius and Evie Lena Oliver Mathis.
He married Jackie Collins on May 28, 2003. He had been employed by Remington Apparel in Graham, Texas in the maintenance department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Tamara Lyn Chambers of Odessa, Texas, and Alisha Jeanene Arnsmeyer of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Richard Allen Mathis of Odessa; two sisters, Alice Weaver of Graham and Lorene McAlister of Portales; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The Rev. Jim Senkel will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
