CASPER, Wyo. — Eastern New Mexico University seniors Dusty Higgins and James Gililland did not score in third-go performances Tuesday night in the College National Finals Rodeo, and now must wait to see how others do to find out if they reach Saturday’s short-go finals.
The top 12 finishers through three rounds in each event advance to the finals.
Higgins is probably in better shape in the bull riding competition, since few riders have completed their rides. He won the second-go on Tuesday with a score of 79, and that may be enough to get him into the finals.
Gililland, competing with Tarleton State’s Clayton Jackson in team roping, faces longer odds. Gililland and Jackson will need several teams to fail to score in the remainder of the third-go to be able to advance to the finals.
ENMU’s third competitor at the CNFR, sophomore barrel racer Brittany Bennett, was scheduled to compete on Wednesday night in the first group of the third-go in that event. She was 20th after the second-go.
