A 27-year-old woman died Tuesday in a two-car accident south of Clovis on U.S. 70.
Police declined to name the victim Tuesday night pending notification of the family, according to Clovis Police Traffic Officer David Lester.
The woman was one of five occupants in a passenger vehicle that collided with a semi-tractor trailer that was traveling south on U.S. 70, according to a CPD press release.
All five occupants were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center. Four of the five occupants were later transferred by helicopter to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, where the woman died, according to police.
The names and conditions of the other four occupants of a 1993 Pontiac were not made available by police at press time.
Lester said police are still not sure who was driving the Pontiac.
Lester said the passenger vehicle entered the four-lane highway from Forrest Drive Park without stopping. He said the trailer rode over the top of the car and dragged it for several feet before the car “was spit out” to the side of the road, where it struck a mail box and rolled over.
The car traveled about 250 feet from the point of impact. The tractor trailer traveled another 250 feet before stopping, Lester said.
The driver of the semi-tractor, who was carrying palettes to a Portales, was not injured, Lester said.
