Seniors who gather daily at the Senior Center on Industrial Drive have chosen in many cases to keep their minds and bodies healthy and active. The staff at the center appreciates the joy of being involved.
We at the center are gearing up for the Senior Olympics in March, and we are planning and practicing activities for that event. We will need many participants for individual and team events. Monday and Friday afternoons will feature special times for organizing and practicing.
Table games are in progress each weekday. The pool room is open, and computers, shuffleboard and exercise machines are available. The exercise group meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The bridge club meets each Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Call 356-6433 for information.
The dancers meet on Saturday night for an evening of live music and dancing. A group works on art Mondays at 9 a.m. The ceramics room is a busy place on most weekdays as well.
The sewing group is directed by Diane Odenweller (356-5663) and meets the first and third Monday of each month at 1 p.m. The group enjoys sharing ideas and creating items.
Game night was well attended on Tuesday. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. for games and 6 p.m. for sandwiches. An additional game night, with no meal, will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
The center also provides transportation to Clovis for medical appointments on Tuesdays. The appointments must be between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The vans are also available for running errands around town. Call the center at 36-8741 for van service information.
The Thursday pot luck meals will resume at the Center Sept. 1 at noon. Bring a dish (or $4) to take part.
Thursday is senior day at the Roosevelt County Fair and seniors will be participating with the meal at the fairgrounds. Pioneer Days will be held at 9 a.m. at the Jake Lopez Building.
