ALBUQUERQUE — Desiree Markham, 2004-2005 Roosevelt County Fair Queen, received the congeniality award Sept. 25 during the state fair queen contest at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque.
The State Fair Queen for 2006 is Amanda Mae LaPrelle of Sandoval County. The 20-year-old is the daughter of James and Jan LaPrelle of Placitas. She is a junior at the University of New Mexico and is majoring in sign language interpreting.
The candidate receiving the congeniality award is selected by her peers. It is given to the young woman who is genuinely kind by nature and who will go the extra mile for people without having to be asked says Mary Darnell, coordinator of the queen contest.
LaPrelle also won the Personality Award and Horsemanship Award. Amanda Mae LaPrelle of Sandoval County. Second runner-up was Cheryl Humphreys of Bernalillo County. First runner up was Elizabeth Cecil of Colfax County.
