Portales didn’t get the start it wanted, but it certainly got the finish.

The Lady Rams put their winning streak to five matches and stayed undefeated in District 4-3A play with an 18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-12 victory Tuesday at Lovington.

“They came out playing pretty hard,” Portales coach Ruth Chavez said of Lovington. “They did a lot of different things we had to adjust to and we didn’t serve/receive well.

“We played well those next three games and took control. We got more in sync.”

After starting district play 2-0, Portales gets 10 days of rest until it goes on the road to face Ruidoso Oct. 15.

“We’re going to work on serve/receive,” Chavez said. “I think you live and die by that.”

The junior varsity swept Lovington in two games to up its record to 9-5.
