PJHS News
Making Music
Franklin Smith, choir director announced Portales Junior High choir students will have their first performance Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the high school’s Performing Arts Center. Smith said the program will include a variety of music styles. All family and friends are welcome.

First Quarter Ends
Students completed their nine-weeks’ tests Thursday and Friday. Teachers are getting grades in the computer for the Tuesday deadline. Parents may check their children’s grades by logging on to the Power Grade site from the Portales Municipal School District’s home page at: www.portalesschools.com.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Oct. 24 is reserved for parents and teachers to visit about students’ progress. This year the school is trying a schedule to help eliminate parents having to wait so long to visit with teachers. If at all possible, Assistant Principal Glenda Meeks asks parents to schedule their visits by the following schedule of the student’s last name:
A-B-C 11a.m. to noon
D-E-F-G noon to 1 p.m.
H-I-J-K-L 1-2 p.m.
M-N-O 3-4 p.m.
P-Q-R-S 4-5 p.m.
T through Z 5-6 p.m.
The school will close from 2-3 p.m. so the faculty can have lunch or visit their children’s schools for those conferences. This year we will make an effort to keep conferences to 10 minutes to ease congestion and waiting time for parents. By having a time for faculty to have lunch, parents won’t feel frustrated if the teacher they need to see has just stepped down the hall to eat lunch.

Bus Safety
Tuesday students will be learning about emergency procedures on a school bus. Drivers will visit each campus and instruct students as part of National School Bus Safety Week.
