Portales clinched the top spot in the District 4-3A tournament Saturday night after posting a sweep against Ruidoso. Scores were 25-21, 25-21, 21-16 in favor of Portales.

“We were kind of sluggish,” Portales coach Ruth Chavez said. “We’d been off for so many days. But we still won in three, so we’ll take that.”

The victory is the sixth in a row for Portales, which is idle until Thursday for its district finale against Lovington.
The Lady Rams (15-3, 3-0 district) will end the regular season with a pair of home matches.

The junior varsity also posted a sweep with a 25-21, 25-21 win to push its record to 10-5.

After Lovington, Portales will close the regular season with a Saturday match against Dexter. The junior varsity match will begin at 5 p.m. Chavez said the time change was to accommodate for kids taking the ACT tests during the weekend.
