Commodities
Commodities distribution started in Portales in the late 1970’s. Several from each rural area drove up to help up there. The effort had people from Causey, Milnesand and Dora who were faithful — then Haskel Doyal asked some about taking it out to the rural areas to better serve others who couldn’t come in. Since then they’ve been distributed in each of the areas of Elida, Kenna, Bethel, Floyd, Milnesand, Dora, Pep, Arch, Causey, Lingo and several in Portales. In Dora, C&S allows the community use of its station as a distribution center.

Former Milnesand resident dies
Anna Beth Richards received a phone call this past week about the death of a former Milnesand resident. Iris Jean (Pate) had lived with her parents, Riley and Lorene Pate in Milnesand while attending both Elida and Dora schools. She married Warren Bosenberry after they moved away, but had kept in touch with special classmates from this area. She was a niece of Cecil and Ruby Pate also of Milnesand. Iris Jean and Warren had lived in Mesilla Park for years , but had moved recently to McKinney, Texas just three weeks before she died.

South County
Surprise birthday
Several from this area and Portales drove to Andrews, Texas Saturday to help with a surprise 90th birthday for Ernestine Carmichael. She and husband Pete lived near the Garrison store for years and farmed in the area before moving their family to Portales. There were also many friends and relatives from LaMesa, Texas there for a day of food, cake and fellowship.
