Hounds fall to Ichabods in overtime

HAYS, Kan. — Rashad Adams had a game-high 23 points in regulation, including a late free throw to tie the score, and Washburn University scored the first nine points of overtime in a 90-85 win Friday night over Eastern New Mexico University at the Westlink Communications Classic, hosted by Fort Hays State University.

Adams was 8-of-16, including 3-of-4 from the arc, and 4-for-7 from the free throw line. Adams hit 1-of-2 free throws with two seconds left in regulation to tie the score, and the Ichabods never looked back after a trey by Kris Milburn to start the extra session.

The late effort negated a Greyhounds comeback led by Stephen Wilson, who scored 19 points to tie for the team lead. After an Adams 3-pointer gave Washburn a 75-69 lead with 2:08 left, Wilson spurred an 8-1 run with a 3-pointer and gave the Greyhounds the lead on a jumper with 14 seconds left. Wilson, however, committed his fifth foul on Adams, allowing Washburn the opportunity to send the game into the extra session.

Tristan Largent also scored 19 for ENMU on 6-of-10 shooting, while Larry Prince added 10.

Milburn scored five of his 18 points in overtime, while J.B. Murray added 14 for the Ichabods.

The Greyhounds play for third place at 2 p.m. today (MST) against Illinois Tech, an 86-47 loser to Fort Hays in Friday’s second semifinal. Washburn faces FHSU in the championship game at 7 p.m.
