J.R. Gonzales had 17 points to lead a balanced effort as the Dora Coyotes improved to 2-0 on the season with a 64-45 victory Monday at Clovis Christian.
Gonzales was one of two Coyote scorers in double figures, along with Tyler Wilhoit (10 points), and 10 Coyotes scored against the Eagles.
The Coyotes led 25-20 at the half, but put the game away with a 21-12 third quarter.
“Early in the game, (Lane) Ware had three 3-points,” Dora coach Ty Thatcher said. “We just did a better job picking him up. We pressured the ball, made sure he didn’t get great catches.”
Ware and Ryan Boatman each scored 12 to lead the Eagles. Austin Prewett had eight points, while Clay Smith and Kyler Smith each had seven for Dora.
The Coyotes will be on the road tomorrow at Eunice and play at Clayton Thursday to open a weekend tournament.
