Girls begin with the “A” teams, and the boys begin with the “B” teams. Games will be played in two schools, so students won’t be too late getting in the last study time for their semester tests.

Semester ends
Students finished their second quarter tests Thursday and Friday and will complete their semester tests early this week. School will dismiss at 1 p.m. on Friday. Teachers return Jan. 2 for in-service, and students will report Jan. 3 for the second half of the year.

Library accepting canned food for fines
From now until Christmas, the librarian is accepting canned goods to pay library fines. Two cans of food will cover any fine for books that have been returned. If books are lost, students can bring one can of food for each dollar amount of the book with a 10-can limit. Food collected will be distributed through a local charity.

Students put on plays and programs
Just before Thanksgiving break, the fifth grade class performed the play The Pilgrims’ Arrival: Thanksgiving at Plymouth for parents, administration, and elementary students. The students learned that plays incorporate reading for fluency and expression and build public speaking skills. Also in November, the junior high art class created nursery rhyme puppets and performed for the preschool, kindergarten and first grade students. The students critiqued their puppets and performance. The junior high art class also created screens for the music program held at the school last week.
