Q. What do you think of Portales?
A. “I think Portales is a great town. The small town atmosphere and people make it a great place to raise a family.”

Q. How have your children influenced your life?
A. “Oh yes! In every way. I am so lucky to have two wonderful children.

Q. Tell us about your spouse.
A. “My husband, Tommy, is my best friend. He is supportive, smart and a great dad.

Q. When you were a kid, what did you think you would be doing as an adult?
A. “I thought I would be a veterinarian.

Q. Tell us about your first career.
A. “I had other jobs prior but my first ‘career’ was as a catering manager.”

Q. Tell us about a happy time.
A. When my children were born.

Q. How did you end up in Portales?
A. “I married my husband who is from here.

Q. What has kept you in Portales?
A. “My family. It is a great place, I love it here.”

Q. Tell us about your job.
A. “My job is a new experience nearly every day. Each day there is a new challenge, but that is what makes it great and I have a wonderful staff.”

Q. What is your favorite smell?
A. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls.

Q. What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
A. “Spending it with my kids.”

Q. What is the best gift you have ever received?
A. Good advice and encouragement.

Q. If money were no object, what would you do to make the world a better place?
A. “Rid the world of drugs, especially meth. It is quickly destroying families from nearly every walk of life.”

Q. What is your favorite book, and why?
A. “I have too many. I love to read.”

Q. Who is your favorite character in a book, movie or play?
A. “I just loved Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile.”

Q. What is your greatest hope?
A. “It is that I will raise my children to be successful, respectable and loving.”

Q. What advice would you give to high school graduates?
A. “Live life to the fullest, enjoy every minute and have faith in yourself.”

Q. Tell us about your best friend growing up.
A. “She was wonderful and still is to this day — we were inseparable from the second grade on.”

Q. If you could go anywhere in the world for dinner, where would you go and what would you have?
A. Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, real French cuisine.

Q. Tell about a time when your were nervous.
A. “Recently it would be testifying in front of the Legislative Finance Committee on behalf of the county.”

Q. If you could redo one moment in life, what would it be? Why?
A. “There have been times when I have missed one of my children’s activities because of work — I don’t want that to happen again — they are too precious.”
Q. What is the one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but have been afraid to try?
A. “Parasailing — I’m terrified of heights.”

Q. If you were the mayor of Portales, what would you do to help fight crime?
A. I would pursue funding to adequately staff law enforcement departments and to provide anti-crime education to our young children as a possible deterrent.
