Eastern New Mexico University has scheduled a press conference Monday at Greyhound Arena to announce its new women’s head basketball coach.

ENMU athletic director Mike Maguire said Friday three candidates were brought in this week for interviews, but he and other school officials declined to release names. The school announced the press conference Thursday in a release from its sports information office.

The new coach will replace Dan Buzard, who spent 17 seasons as a coach in the women’s program, the last four as head coach. His teams went 47-63 in that time, including the 2004-05 when he did not actively coach while recovering from a cancerous brain tumor.

Buzard’s contract was not renewed after a 2005-06 season in which the Zias, plagued by injuries to key players, finished 11-17 overall and 3-11 in the Lone Star Conference South Division.

Maguire said Buzard was let go based on his win-loss record.
