SEI-CCS LLC plans to add up to 80 jobs by the end of the year to its Clovis bilingual customer care center, nearly tripling the number of employees, according to a company spokesperson.

The company received $282,108 in state Job Training Incentive Awards to create 71 of the jobs, according to a news release from the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

Susan Schuette, SEI vice president of customer relations, said the company is hiring now as it adds responsibility for servicing some clients to Clovis and gains new business.

Schuette described the positions being filled as similar to the technical support jobs held now by the 44 employees at the South Seventh Street site.

SEI employees in Clovis provide hardware, software and procedural technical support for McDonald’s Corp.’s U.S. operations, Schuette said, and are beginning to support Culligan.

She described the Clovis unit as a “very critical location for us” because employees are bilingual, noting “the critical needs in the industry to provide technical support in Spanish.”

For McDonald’s, SEI employees in Clovis receive calls from restaurant owners and managers who have difficulty with equipment and provide technical and procedural assistance, according to Schuette.

SEI has 700 employees and annual revenue of $50 million, according to Schuette. It has four U.S. and two European customer support centers, according to its Web site

The state Job Training Incentive Program, formerly known as the In-Plant Training Program, reimburses qualified economic-based companies for a significant portion of training costs associated with job creation, according to the news release.

To qualify, new or expanding companies must either create a product in New Mexico or provide a non-retail service with 50 percent of the company’s customer or revenue base outside the state. The eligible jobs must be full-time and year-round. Trainees must be new hires and have been a New Mexico resident for at least one continuous year at any time prior to being hired.
