Teacher looks forward to new school

Sandy Belden will be a new kindergarten teacher at Brown Early Development Center in Portales this upcoming school year.

Having taught first grade at La Casita Elementary School in Clovis for the past two years, Belden said she is looking forward to teaching at Brown. She and her family live in Elida, so the transfer means an easier commute.

She was inspired to become a teacher by teachers she had in school as well as some bad experiences. What she enjoys most about teaching is interacting with her students, she said, and “making a difference.”

Born in Fort Sumner in 1977, she was raised in Elida, where she attended school and graduated in 1995. In 2004, she graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in bilingual teaching.

She said she enjoys fishing and scrapbooking.
