WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Amy Pennell reached the semifinals in both singles and doubles before bowing out in the Lone Star Conference Individual Championships tennis tournament over the weekend, hosted by Midwestern State.
Pennell beat Midwestern’s Berkley Peeples 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles quarterfinals on Friday, but lost to Gabriela del Campo of Northeastern State 6-4, 6-3 in Saturday’s semifinals.
Pennell teamed with Sarah McAfee to beat East Central’s Erin Miller and Ayssa O’Neal 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 doubles quarterfinals on Friday. They then lost to Meagan Brown and Sarah Drummond Abilene Christian 6-0, 6-1 in Saturday’s semifinals.
The Zias’ only other win came in a preliminary round match on Friday, where Millie Weeks beat Southeastern Oklahoma’s Ashley Becker 6-1, 6-2. Weeks was then eliminated in the quarterfinals by top-seeded Daska Segenchuck of East Central 6-2, 6-2.
