Zias lose third straight match at Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped its third consecutive decision in t he Lone Star Conference crossover tournament on Saturday morning, falling to Texas A&M-Commerce 30-27, 30-22, 28-30, 30-20.

Junior outside hitter Randi Egley had a season-best 18 kills for the Zias (6-17). After ENMU pulled to within a game, the Lions (10-12) broke open a close fourth game with a 7-0- run for an 18-9 cushion.

The event matches teams from the LSC’s South Division against their counterparts from the North. On Friday, the Zias fell to Cameron 30-27, 30-15, 30-16 and to Southeastern Oklahoma 26-30, 30-22, 30-16, 30-19.

Junior Jessie Macknicki had 12 kills for the Zias against Cameron. The Lady Aggies were led by Fernanda Queiroz with 16 kills and Taran Turner with 14.

The Zias jumped on Southeastern in the first game, but couldn’t sustain it. Olivia Franceskini with 23 kills, 11 digs and four service aces, while Marcie LeGrand and Vanessa Wilcox each had nine kills for the Zias.
