White advances with Dodgers

Portales High School allumni Logan White was promoted this week to Assistant General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. White is the son-in-law of Portales residents Web and Jan Smartnick.

“I’m pretty excited for him, he’s a hard worker,” Smartnick said. “He’s never slacked off on the jobs that he’s had, and he’s always had faith in himself that he would make it.”

According to the official Dodgers web site, White recently completed his fifth season as the Dodgers’ Director of Amateur Scouting, where he has overseen the team’s June First-Year Player Draft. His drafts have regularly been ranked among the best in the National League by Baseball America. White also worked in the scouting departments of the Orioles, Padres, and Mariners following a four-year minor league baseball career with Seattle.

White was a starting pitcher for the Rams in the late ‘70’s, graduating from Portales High School in 1980, before attending Western New Mexico University.
