One contested race in county school board elections

Only one Roosevelt County school board race will be contested come the Feb. 6 elections.

Floyd Municipal Schools’ board of education member, Lisa Schmidt, faces opposition from challenger, Jack W. Moore, a retired long-time school administrator and coach. The incumbent currently holds the Position 5 seat.

A total of 12 people, which includes 11 incumbents, filed to run for the 11 school board seats up for election in the Portales, Dora, Elida and Floyd school districts.
The County Clerk’s Office in the Roosevelt County Courthouse accepted school board filings through the deadline which was 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Election ballots will include the following names:

Portales Municipal Schools:

• Position 1 – Rodney Savage
• Position 2 – Inez Rodriguez
• Position 5 – Mary Lou Rowley

Dora Municipal Schools:
• Position 1 – James Monte Mapp
• Position 3 – Kenneth D. Cox
• Position 5 – Rebecca M. Burress

Elida Municipal Schools:
• Position 1 – Jeffery R. Bilberry
• Position 2 – Emilano Jasso

Floyd Municipal Schools
• Position 3 – Marvin Leon Nall
• Position 4 – James (Jim) R. Chandler
• Position 5 – Lisa Schmidt, Jack W. Moore
