Representative Anderson Carter, who has represented Roosevelt County in the New Mexico legislature for the past eight years, was guest speaker before members of the Portales Business and Professional Women’s Club and urged the women to take more interest in the laws of their state and their execution. He feels it is the duty of all adults to have an opinion on subjects concerning the public good and be able to express them.
He stressed the need of the legislative department of the government and pointed out it was the voice of the people and it should not be encroached upon by the judicial and executive departments. The loss of power by the people is dangerous for he has faith in the people but is fearful when those same people lose interest in affairs of government and allow a minority to get the power.
