La Escalera Art Guild met Tuesday evening in the Coronado Room of the Portales National Bank, where they had an interesting program on the art of tole paintings. Mrs. Robbie Sackett of the Art Nook at Clovis presented the program. Tole painting is the process of painting decorative motifs on tin or other metal and is popular for decorating trays , canisters, and similar items. She showed many finished articles from her shop and demonstrated the technique on a wooden plaque. a western painting called “Packin’ In” by LaWanda Calton was selected as Painting of the Month and it is dispalyed at the First National Bank. Other pictures being shown this month include a western painting by Sibyl Moore at the Portales national Bank; “Large Red Roses” by Inez Morrison at the Gals’; and a palette knife painting by Mildred Hale at the Portales Medical Center. Also a view at the Medical Center is a still-life by Frieda Sturman and a large landscape by Tish Boyd.
