Legislative funds will be used to purchase equipment for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners in Curry County, according to a press release from the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s office.
Approximately $20,000 will be used to purchase a colposcope, a computerized camera used to magnify, photograph and document injuries during collection of forensic evidence, the release said.
Sen. Stuart Ingle, R-Portales secured the funds during the recent legislative session, according to the release.
“This new colposcope is going to be a great resource that will enhance the services our program is able to provide to victims of sexual assault and abuse in Curry County,” S.A.N.E. administrator Amber Hamilton said.
District Attorney Matt Chandler said the equipment will be a boon to the investigative and prosecutorial processes.
S.A.N.E. is a is a service provided to sexual assault victims in the 9th Judicial District with units in Curry and Roosevelt victims, the release said.
