ALBUQUERQUE — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s track team took multiple places in several field events in Saturday’s Don Kirby Memorial Invitational track meet, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
No team scores were kept.
Freshman Steven Aragon led a 2-3-4-5 Greyhounds finish in javelin, throwing 190 feet, 2 inches. Two-time Lone Star Conference champion Zach Gerleve followed at 176-5, while Robert Griego was next at 171-6 and Logan Capps came in at 167-11.
Freshman Kenyatta Carter led a 2-3-5 showing in triple jump at 47-0 3/4, followed by Kyle Harris (45-8) and Tyrone Sharpe (44-1 1/2). ENMU had double placers in shot put with Jonathan Bell (46-11 1/2) and Quinin Robinson (46-0); in high jump with Jeremy Hibbler second (6-4 3/4) and Tyrone Sharpe fourth (5-10 3/4), and in long jump with Kyle Harris fifth (21-5 1/4) and Aaron Samuels sixth (21-4 1/4).
On the track, the 400 relay team of William Morris, Jacob Jones, Tony Jenkins and Michael Morin claimed second place in 42.27 seconds, while the 1,600 relay team of Jenkins, Jeremy Thompson, Jones and Carter was fourth in 3:20.69.
Tim Hamett placed fourth in the 100 in 11.05 seconds and fifth in the 200 in 22.93, while Thompson was third in the 400 at 48.10, Nimrod Lelei came in fourth in the 1,500 in 4:01.29 and Felix Boit was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:28.31.
The top finish for ENMU’s women was a fourth by senior Lisa Lopez in the 3,000 steeplechase in 14:36.82. The 400 relay team of Christina Garza, Hannah Rhoten, Catressa Olison and Aundrea Newfeld was fifth in 52.19 seconds, while freshman Deidra Brown was fifth in javelin (122-8) and sixth in discus (122-0).
ENMU teams return to action in the Lone Star Conference meet, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Commerce, Texas.
