COMMERCE, Texas — Junior Felix Boit won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the Greyhounds posted a 2-3-4-5 finish in javelin in the Lone Star Conference track meet, hosted over the weekend by Texas A&M-Commerce.

ENMU finished last in both divisions of the six-school meet, with the men scoring 47 points and the women 16. Abilene Christian won its 14th consecutive men’s title with 248 points to 152 for runnerup Angelo State, and the Wildcats took the women’s title for the 22nd time in the 24-year history of the event with 280 points to 211 for Angelo.

Boit, from Eldoret, Kenya, posted a time of 9 minutes, 50.20 seconds in Saturday’s 3,000 steeplechase.

Meantime, two-time defending champion Zach Gerleve was edged out in javelin, finishing second at 197 feet to Tarleton State’s Stephen Dombrowski, who threw 198-7. ENMU freshman Robert Griego was third at 184-3, followed by teammates Logan Capps (176-8) and Steven Aragon (174-11).

Highlighting women’s performances was a second-place finish on Sunday in long jump by freshman Hannah Rhoten, who went 18-5. Rhoten also placed fifth in triple jump on Saturday, and ran on one of the Zias’ two sixth-place relay teams.

Freshman Deidra Brown added a fourth-place finish in women’s javelin on Sunday with a throw of 131-5.

ENMU has two meets remaining, both in Abilene, Texas — Thursday’s ACU All-Comers event and the McMurry Last Chance meet on May 17. The Hounds and Zias, with several provisional NCAA Division II national qualifiers, are hoping to improve their chances of qualifying for the national meet May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.
