A 28-year-old Portales woman was arrested Thursday on multiple felony forgery and embezzlement charges, according to a press release from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.
Kwana Buras is charged with 10 counts of fraud involving a credit card, seven counts of forgery and 59 counts of embezzlement, the release said.
Curry County Sheriff’s Office investigators determined that between December 2005 and April 2007, Buras paid for personal items and services totaling $5,855 using checks from a Curry County electrical contractor where she was employed, the release said. Also, during a 16-month period, Buras made 190 unauthorized transactions with fraudulently obtained business credit card, totaling more than $15,000 personal expenses, the release said. She is also accused of defrauding the company insurance program for more than $4,000.
Buras is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
