Moving from a home-based business to a storefront was the next logical step for the recently opened Fiestas y Mas, located at the corner of Main and Second streets in Portales.
Fiestas y Mas specializes in providing all the services needed for events such as quinceañeras, weddings and other special occasions. Everything from invitations to video, DJ and photo service to the set-up and decorations for events are available, said owner Perla Pillado.
“What we focus more on is the decorations,” Pillado said.
After helping to plan and decorate for a family members’ quinceañeras, Pillado spent the next decade buying decorative items, such as arches and flowers to start the business. Word of mouth was the driving force behind the business and Pillado felt that it was time to open a storefront, she said.
“Right know we know that it’s going to be a little bit slow, but we really think this is going to work out,” Pillado said.
According to Pillado, for those that did not know about her home-based business, many were traveling to Lubbock, Hobbs, and Amarillo to purchase items needed for their special occasion, she said.
“Portales needs to know it’s here. It’s something better to have in Portales. It will make their special day easier to know that they can talk to one person and get everything they need,” Pillado said.
Besides the business’ focus on special occasion items, they are also offering clothing. Currently the store carries formal dresses, some casual clothing, party-style maternity clothing and baptismal clothing for both girls and boys, Pillado said.
“We want to have anything from casual going-out-to-party to formal wear clothing,” Pillado said.
The business also orders custom dresses for weddings and quinceañeras. Pillado does not make the dresses herself but is able to have the dresses custom designed and ordered, she said.
“We want them to be comfortable and like what they wear for their special day,” Pillado said.
