Fairgoers treated to update facilities

Visitors to the 2007 Roosevelt County Fair will be treated to spruced-up fairgrounds.

New bathrooms have been added, while those in the Pavilion have been refurbished. New air conditioning units have also been installed in the Pavilion. Several 4-H clubs in the area have worked on landscaping and beautification projects on the fairgrounds, according to Fair Board President Tim Allison.

The fair, which starts Wednesday, features livestock shows, arts and crafts, exhibits and entertainment.

“Come out to the fair and have fun, that’s what it’s all about,” Allison said.

Entertainment this year includes the Kene Terry Band on Wednesday and Thursday and Kim Blakey with Graham Brothers on Friday and Saturday.

Pioneer Day will take place on Thursday, and the arenacross will return on Saturday night. The Junior Livestock Sale has been moved to Saturday morning, and will take place in the Show Arena, beginning at 9 a.m., Allison said.

Saturday will be the big day at the fair, as several events are held for the children. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration for the Kiwanis Pet Show. The pet show will begin at 12:30 p.m., and will be followed by the turtle race, stick horse race, dummy roping, and goat branding. All events will take place in the Pavilion, Allison said.

“Saturday is always a good day. Kids Day, that’s always a fun day,” Allison said.

Also at the fair this year will be Sun Valley Carnival on the midway, a dog demonstration, Christian country music show, food booths and vendors, according to the Roosevelt County Fairbook.

“I think it’s going to be another good fair. I think it will be nice. We encourage everyone to come out and visit with friends and see the livestock and exhibits, come see the kids and their hard work they’ve put in over the past few months,” Allison said.
