Roosevelt sheriff releases name in child’s death

PNT Staff Report

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the 9-month-old girl whose death Wednesday is being investigated.
Kyler Willis was discovered about 1 p.m. Wednesday at 109 E. Sixth St. in Portales when paramedics from the Portales Fire Department were dispatched to attend to an unresponsive child.

Officials will not say if they suspect the child is a victim of homicide.

The cause of death is pending. An autopsy is being conducted by the Office of the Medical Investigator, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

Sheriff Darren Hooker would not disclose the child’s parent(s) names. He said further information on the death is being withheld to protect the investigation being conducted by his office and the Portales Police Department.

Hooker said his department is investigating another location in connection with the death but would not elaborate.

No one answered the door at the address on Sixth Street on Friday afternoon. Neighbors in the area said they didn’t know the residents.
