Lady Rams pushed to five games in win at Roswell

PNT Staff Report

For their second consecutive match, the Lady Rams won another nail-biting five-game contest — this one was at Roswell High Tuesday night.

The Portales girls won the decisive Game 5, 15-8.

“I thought in Game 5, we just completely took control of the game,” Portales coach Ruth Chavez said.

The scores were 26-28, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 15-8.

Chavez said the close match was good for her girls.

“Our passing and serve-receive was really strong so we were able to run a strong offense,” Chavez said. “We had big hitting from Bethany Self and from Jordan Roehl, they both had over 20 kills. (It was) just a really good night for us, everything was clicking for us.”

Chavez also pointed out that the back-and-forth first game was up for grabs.

“The first game could have gone either way. We had two errors (at the end) that dropped it their way but it was a close game and all four games were close,” Chavez said. “I thought we played really well. We were in sync and played pretty good.”

Thursday night, the Portales girls won a five-game match against visiting Artesia.

The Lady Rams host Goddard Tuesday night.

Portales was swept at Goddard last week, 25-9, 25-14, 25-9.

“We’re excited to play that because I want it to be a better game than we had down there,” Chavez said.
