Clovis will host a world premiere Friday when “His Eyes, My Eyes” is shown during the Fiery Film Fest.
Starring Clovis native Ashley Southard and Caleb Brandon, and shot in Clovis, the movie is approximately 30 minutes long. It is directed by Cedrick Rael, founder and director of the Fiery Film Fest.
Filming of the movie was a great experience, said Southard, a Clovis High School senior. Southard, who plays the female lead in the film, says she feels blessed to work with her fellow cast and crew members and to be able to spread the film’s message.
Also participating in the Fiery Film Fest is filmmaker Payton Ware. His film, “The List,” debuted in September at the Flatland Film Festival in Lubbock, but “Lit Up” will be screened for the first time Saturday.
Ware, a Firehouse Theatre employee in Lubbock, has been making movies for the past seven years. The only market right now for short films is festivals and the Internet, said Ware.
“It’s just really neat that Cedrick (Rael) puts this (the festival) together every year and brings independent films to the area,” said Ware, who has participated in the Fiery Film Fest for the last four years.
Along with the premiere of “His Eyes, My Eyes” Friday’s schedule boasts 10 films, including works from Spain, Brazil, New York and France, according to Rael.
On Saturday, the festival begins at 10 a.m. with a free seminar on independent film. Following the discussion will the film competition and an autograph session with actor Keith Hamilton Cobb. Rael said 19 films will be shown throughout the day including works from Germany, Texas, California, North Carolina, Colorado and several from New Mexico. The day concludes with a concert featuring rap artists Lil’ Melv and Mr. Tyler as well as rock band Self-Medicine.
Saturday door prizes include two “Andromeda” scripts and two DVDs, among other items, said Rael.
The event will be held at the Lyceum Theatre in Clovis. Tickets are $10 for Friday, $15 for Saturday or $20 for an “All Fest Pass.”
