AARP meets Wednesday
The Roosevelt County Chapter of AARP will meet 2 p.m. Wednesday in the board room at the Community Services Center, 1100 Community Way in Portales.
Mary Beavis, a member of AARP state executive council will give a program entitled “Divided We Fail,” a project that asks people to support only candidates who present a platform to conserve Medicare and Social Security.
The meeting is open to the public.

Used book sale set
The Friends of the Portales Public Library will hold their annual used book sale on Thursday through Saturday in the meeting room at the library, 218 S. Ave. B.
Paperback books will be 25 cents and hardbacks 50 cents. Hours for the sale will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The sale will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Any books remaining at noon Saturday will be sold for $1 per bag.
This sale is the largest annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, and all proceeds are used to support library activities.
Donations of used books are taken year-round at the library. Pickup may be arranged by calling the library at 356-3940.

Disaster aid available
Agriculture producers who suffered losses caused by natural disasters in years 2005 through 2007 may be eligible to sign-up for three new ad hoc disaster programs, according to a press release from the USDA’s New Mexico Farm Service Agency.
Applications are currently being taken for the Livestock Compensation Program, Livestock Indemnity Program and the Crop Disaster Program. Sign-up end dates have not been announced, according to the release.
